Re: When lights on radio shuts off?
If you look in the black box behind the battery you should find a 10A fuse. Yamaha fuses the ground not the power. If there is a wire from the battery to the frame they are bypassing the fuse..

Re: When lights on radio shuts off?
IIRC the G9 generator makes 15A at high rpm. It sure does not need a large battery for starting, I would think you could fit a large battery in there that would run anything short of huge lights and subwoofers for longer periods.
The frame is not grounded in yamahas, in fact the engine (ignition/starter) is the only thing powered and it is not on the frame anyway. I had to ground the frame in my cart because the lights only ground to the mount bolt that is on a metal bracket on the frame. It has worked well for over 10yr, one time it did come off and the lights went dim. I shut them off quick and fixed the ground it was fine. I would recommend you wire the radio with its own wires to power. A lot of people add a second battery for subwoofers. Also class D amplifiers take less power good idea to use those. One day I was wondering if you could mount a car alternator on there and just use a longer belt with an idler and mount it above the generator. |
