Well its funny you would say ur starter will stay on mine currently does this but if i tap the solenoid id stops so i think my problem is a result in the solenoid going. but hey the bigger wire worked!

Its a gas cart.....the battery is already grounded to the frame......

No yamaha has a frame ground. ground to the batt only

well there was already a wire that seemed to go from neg on batter to frame but justtt to make sure so i can sleep at night i made a niceee solid new one with like 6AWG wire lol!

If you look in the black box behind the battery you should find a 10A fuse. Yamaha fuses the ground not the power. If there is a wire from the battery to the frame they are bypassing the fuse..

hate to bring a thread back from the dead but im just curious if this guy added an extra battery or used the existing one. im trying to stay away from adding a battery in my 89 G2A for my radio and lights

IIRC the G9 generator makes 15A at high rpm. It sure does not need a large battery for starting, I would think you could fit a large battery in there that would run anything short of huge lights and subwoofers for longer periods.

The frame is not grounded in yamahas, in fact the engine (ignition/starter) is the only thing powered and it is not on the frame anyway.

I had to ground the frame in my cart because the lights only ground to the mount bolt that is on a metal bracket on the frame. It has worked well for over 10yr, one time it did come off and the lights went dim. I shut them off quick and fixed the ground it was fine.

I would recommend you wire the radio with its own wires to power. A lot of people add a second battery for subwoofers. Also class D amplifiers take less power good idea to use those.

One day I was wondering if you could mount a car alternator on there and just use a longer belt with an idler and mount it above the generator.
