Re: Battery bubbling?
Well, let's expound on this just a bit so no newbies read that and get the wrong idea. It is not uncommon for a battery to gas (boil) during a charge cycle. There should be circuitry to control this as too much gassing will ruin any battery. On a gas cart, the voltage regulator carries this responsibility. On a sparky cart, the charger or OBC will control charge voltage and duration. Running without a regulator will shorten a battery's lifespan.

Re: Battery bubbling?
I had a boat that way it was a pain. Had to water the battery all the time but remember marine batteries are made for that I'm guessing RV/GC like a trojan is too; any battery subject to deep discharging and charging. Car batteries today typically don't see this and you get sealed or semi sealed that will not tolerate that treatment very well. No its not good for the battery Gorno is very correct. If your cart has a VR certainly its far better for it to be working properly. The fumes/acid are very hard on the frame even when the VR is working. I wash mine all the time I even have a bottom of a battery box I'm going to put in there but have to figure out how to drain it without hitting the frame...or I can't wash it. Or I'm going to coat the frame with bedliner spray....this spring when I swap engines.

Re: Battery bubbling?
I just fixed this problem with my G2 today.
Battery was boiling acid after 10-15 minutes of driving. I checked with a meter at the battery and was at 17.5 volts while running. The voltage regulator is realy a simple device. I took mine off, removed the cover, and there is an adjustment screw. I losen the lock nut and adjusted the screw while the cart was running at full power. Set it at 13.5v-14v. It fluctuated a little. This fixed my problem. I just bought the cart last week and Just working out the bugs. This thing is running like a top after a good tune up. I can't stay out of the garage! My neighbors think I am nuts. Freezing temps and I am out driving up and down the road on my new cart. This is the best site. |

The VR is Adjustable? Really? I'll have to look at this today. Great news!

Re: Battery bubbling?
To check and see if this is the culprit ,
drag out the old volt meter , check battery voltage with cart not running, start the cart and with rear wheels off ground and front scotched , give it some gas it should add .3 to .6 volts to the battery as needed , so if battery is at 12.3 then running it should be no more than 12.6 to 12.9 and should decrease .1 at a time until it is back to normal charge . Water should be no more than 1/2 inch above plates "." |

Re: Battery bubbling?
Mine did not look like that link.
My cart is 1990 G2. It looked much different. Located above the driver side rear wheel well. Look here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270707580008&ssPageNam e=STRK:MEWAX:IT The cover comes off this one and has an adjustment. I didn't notice my voltage problem till I adjusted the govenor for more speed. |

I just had to replace mine and I heard some were adjustable- i have the "finned" one and trust me- I looked all over that baby to see if it would come apart! Nope! It's the older style [pre 1990] that can be adjusted. |

Re: Battery bubbling?
Yea, this one isn't adjustable either. The question no one has answered yet still remains. With the new tourqe spring in and the cart running great now, will I burn up another voltage regulator, or should a new one handle the load?
