Default Battery problems

Took cart out to lease yesterday and batteries will not hold a charge. Batteries show to have a full but will start to go down real quick. I drove it about 1/2 a mile and they dropped all the way to 1/2 charge not sure what problem could be. Batteries are about 6 months old, terminals are clean and batts are full of distilled water. Open for any suggestions on what might be the problem. Thanks in advance

I assume since the cart is not yours you can request another one? The cart should have 90 minutes of run time.... 6 mos old or 5 yrs? it sounds like the batteries are bad.

You may have a charger problem. You should start by fully charging, then do voltage and specific gravity checks to see where your batteries are. Is your pack 36 or 48 volts ?? Specific gravity for full charge bat.= 1.277. These numbers are from Trojan battery info. sheet. You should check the stickies for battery information also. Good luck - RAY

PS- Voltage for a full charged 6 v. bat. = 6.37 v. and for an 8 v. bat. =
8.49 v.

Hopefully you fully charged your new batteries before using them the first time and then broke them in properly so they could reach their full storage capacity.

Let the batteries rest at least 6 hours after charger shuts off automatically and record the voltage of each 6V battery.
The fully charged voltage should be at least 6.37V for a 6 month old battery and all voltages should be within 0.1V of each other.

If your batteries passes the above test, do the following:

Drive the 2000 TXT with series wound motor, big tires and 4Ga cables with stock controller, Solenoid and F/R Switch a couple furlongs down the road and back. (Half mile round trip)
Let batteries rest for 10-15 minutes and record individual battery voltages again.
No battery should have dropped more than 0.1V nor should the Min/Max spread exceed 0.1V.

Let us know the results.

JohnnieB I will do ur test when I get back home I still out out hunting and thanks for info. U will let u know results when I do the test. On a side note I charged batteries when I first bought them but didn't know there was anything else to break in on them. I have also never taken them below half charge on meter.

Since the batteries are so new and the problem so severe.... I suspect either a defective or improperly installed battery at this point based upon the information you have given us.
