looks like the problem was the cheap-o "master pro" HEI module - put back stock module & coil - timing looked much better and runs "OK" but still slower than my 87..... What's strange is with the HEI it was showing two alternating timing marks on the cooling fan - it kept bouncing back & forth about 25 degrees retarded.???

Can't tell yet - trying to recover from HEI conversion that stood Cart on its ear !!
