How to access keyswitch; '99 EZGO electric.
I recently picked up a rough and tired EZ electric. The keyswitch nut has been removed, and the switch dropped down into the space behind the plastic panel it was mounted on.
Do I have to remove the front cowling to access this space? While I am retrieving the keyswitch, and re-mounting it with a nut, I also will be adding a battery voltage meter. I suppose I could cut the panel, and mount a new one over the hole, with keysw and meter mounted on it. Ideas, anyone? |

There should be two plastic rivets securing the keyswitch plate to the dash. You can push out the center pins of the rivets with a finish nail, remove the rivet bodies, and remove the panel. If you find the pins you pushed through you can reuse them to reinstall the panel.
As for a meter, site sponsor Carts Unlimited has a proven digital meter and corresponding keyswitch plate ready to go. |

Re: How to access keyswitch; '99 EZGO electric.
Thanks. I could take a pic and post, but it is as you have described, with the 2 little plastic buttons at the bottom of the plate. I saw they were not screws, and didn't know they could be pushed out. Will do that tomorrow.
As to the meter, that is a sweet setup there, with that meter and plate. I like it. But, I am a retired avionics/communications tech and ham radio op, and I have a 'junkbox' of stuff from projects and scrapped equipment, including an assortment of LED and LCD panel meters. If I don't have one I can use, then C/U is my next stop. |

You can also remove the EZ-Go logo on the front of the buggy and reach up from the front. You'll need someone to tighten the nut while you hold the key switch.

Re: How to access keyswitch; '99 EZGO electric.
Thanks for the help. Got'it done. As you said, there were two little plastic 'rods' that pushed right thru the plastic rivets, allowing the plate to be removed. I vacuumed that enclosed area by stuffing the vac hose thru the dash opening. Retreived the plastic pieces from the vac bag, and set them on thebench.
Found a meter, mounted it on the keyswicth plate and ran a black wire back to the battery, for a meter ground. Cleaned up the filings and drillings on the bench, and swept that, and the little plastic rods right into the trash! I found an aluminum nail of the correct diameter, so I ended up using that. Next job is new brakes. |
