Default wiring horn through existing steering column?

I just got in a new steering wheel and realize it has a horn button, can I run the wires up the existing column or do I need to get the chrome column cover to hide the wires?

You are gonna have to put a horn button on the dash or on the floorboard like an old car. The columns are solid so you cant run a wire thru them. - Mayor

Can you post a pic of the bottom of the steering wheel? Did it come with an adapter that slides over and clamps to the steering column? What I'm trying to see is if your wheel has two copper (or brass) rings around the bottom of the wheel, and if you got an adapter that has two small brushes that will ride on the copper/brass strips on the wheel.

Somebody asked this same question once recently and it was a no. The wheel can turn at least one turn in each direction, so the wires would just get twisted up...

I understand what your saying, like in a car wheel the wheel turns but the ring doesn't but it slides over the brushes to make contact. I think it has just two wires off the center cap, so it sounds like that would just twist the wires 180 degrees back and forth, not good in my opinion. To get the answer to your question when I get off work I'll take a look at it and post the picture. As far as running the wires up the column, if the column isn't going to work I bet if I brought one of those fancy chrome sleeves I'd have room to run the wires between the two but it may be too tight. I posed the question just in case someone has done this. I really don't mind putting the horn on the dash, I just saw the wires on the steering wheel and the center part is spring loaded like a real horn for a car, thought maybe it would work for the cart.

. . . put the horn button on the floor in an area accessible by the left foot . . like the "old" high beam button . . . (showing my age) . . .
