Re: Slow this puppy down...
Sorry I posted the wrong wiring diagram. It will not let me edit. Here is the correct one.
Thanks, M |

Re: Slow this puppy down...
My Saturn speedometer says it will do 120MPH. But I don't. The best speed reducing method is using common sense.

Re: Slow this puppy down...
After some discussions with fellow members I decided to go back to a SPDT switch with a 3k resistor inline on one pole and direct wire on the other. I will attach to the white line of the F-R micro switch number 3. I will also give Sergio's hidden kill switch a try. I love magnets. :-)
Thanks all for your help. I will report back next week with the results and photos. M |

Re: Slow this puppy down...
Excellent! We love results and photos. It should also serve as a good how-to for folks wanting to slow down a cart, as there has been a lot of discussion but no real guide or pics of how it's done.
Even though I think it's a good idea - as with any power limiting device, I can already see this mod being called "The B*tch Switch" |

Re: Slow this puppy down...
For anyone else that wants to add a hidden magnetic start switch, here is a little help for parts selection:
Magnetic / Reed Switches SPST-NO 14mm 0.5 A at 100 V, 15 At to 20 At Mouser #: 876-KSK-1A66/3-1520 Mfr #: KSK-1A66/3-1520 Cost: $0.80 http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...XhHcO8NTcKM%3d Diode Vr/1000V Io/1A Mouser # 583-1N4007-B Mfr #: 1N4007-B Cost: $0.03 http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...QUF%252buG6cB8 Relay 48VDC/30A Mouser #: 653-G8P-1A2T-FDC48 Mfr #: G8P-1A2T-F DC48 Cost: $3.04 http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...4cII0lGg%3d%3d When working with Reed switches, do not cut or bend the leads, they are acctually a functional part of the sensitivity of the switch. You should solder wires to the leads and leave them comming out axially from the Reed switch for the best sensitivity. |

Re: Slow this puppy down...
Installed a 3.6K resistor in line. Used the old light switch the previous owner install as a resistor bypass. With switch off 24.7 MPH on test run. With switch on 34.2 mph same test run. If you switch on while in reduced speed mode it increases both torque and speed. I am going to call this a complete success.

Re: Slow this puppy down...
Awesome work!
With some cleanup, a potential sticky?? Seems we hear a lot of guys with fast carts asking how to slow 'em down. |

Re: Slow this puppy down...
Instead of a "one speed" resistor , could this have been done with some type of volume control/potentiometer so you could "dial in" the desired speed?.....
say your on it , crank it all the way , wife or friend maybe 3/4 and if the kids want to drive it it could be cranked down to around 15 mph or so.....I know NOTHING about electronics but just wondering.... |

Re: Slow this puppy down...
I would think it could but you would have to have a very good control. Most controls are not that precise.

Re: Slow this puppy down...
Sounds like a great invention. You now have two speed electronic shifter.
