I understand these are directional, which end goes to which terminal?

The diode should have a different colored band near one end of the body. That band should be the end that goes to the small terminal on the + current side.

Navitas has stated theres no need for the resistors when using thier controllers, At least ive read this multiple times here. I'm not sure what they do differently internally but..
