Call Tom at CPP. I got a CVTech clutch for my Honda 20 from him. It has an idler bearing on it. I have no problems shifting and the belt is like a banjo string

I posted on this in your other post, but I will chime in here..

The normal stock pedal activated engine never has this problem, because
you would stop the cart to go to reverse anyway, and the engine at standstill
would have zero anything on the clutch.

I set my stock cart up with a switch, so I could do certain things with it, that
using the pedal made more trouble..as in running an inverter and such.
The problem that came up, even with a 9 horse, is that any torque on the tranny is going to make it tough or impossible to shift.
Now that I am running a 23 briggs with an extra long belt, (for an 88 ezgo, 45 inches) and not using a pedal (using a kill switch, a fuel shut off switch and momentary contact switch for starter solenoid) I have the same situation..
That being , like you, I have to either have a belt long enough so that at a
high idle it won't torque the tranny, or low idle enough not to.
I took my shifter cables ALL the way off.
I put a 1/4 threaded rod about 20 " long from behind the seat in the middle,
through a hole that was designed for this, (lol) and then down directly to my shifter arm, with two locking nuts on each side of the arm to hold it..

THAT is my shifter... It is a 'make shift' shifter...

I got a plastic knob, not a skull head for the knob.

Then I idled my briggs way down ..so it just chugs.. and I can shift..with a little bit of tension.. My plan is about another 2" on the belt, I can always slide my motor a little forward if I need to.

All that was just to let you know you ain't alone.
Now that is some good old fashioned redneck engineering....genius!
Thanks

My workhorse with a big block and comet 1190 clutch is much harder to shift sitting still. I have just gotten used to shifting her just as she rolls to a stop in this way it will shift smooth as glass. Maybe this will help

I'll have to try that out. i got the new jakes shifter on and it really helped with the shifting stiffness but it wont stay in neutral....yet another headache!

So far , I think mr. essness wins...

The idler bearing clutch seems to be the ticket long term for
this issue..
and some of the other corrections..

ok, the clutch spring is the culprit but I have no idea what kind of clutch this is. Can anyone identify this clutch...brand name?
The Honda has a keyed 1" shaft if that might narrow it down a bit

That is a stock ez-go clutch, at least on the out side.
you could get a hevier spring (again from Tom at CPP) but I would recommend talking to Tom about another clutch, The performance differance is tremendous

Yep..Stock clutch..probably with a taper adapter.

I notice that Tom has a performance clutch, that it for the taper shaft that I am going to be getting.. I tapered my vtwin in order to keep the stock clutch, but I need to go up a bit I am afraid..it just doesn't have the bite it needs..I looked for the link but now it isn't there...just the two stroke one.
I still think it would work for the taper shaft, but as you said Essness, if he
has a 1" shaft under there, he has some nice options..

My CVTech clutch is tapered. My Honda has a tapered shaft
