I've heard of Glass-Places using a BB-Gun before.I guess they hold it tight to the glass when they fire it.Never tried it though. The Uni-Bit or Step-Drill as they are called(Uni-Bit is a name-brand),Are availiable anywhere.HarborFreight sells a 3pc. set for under $15 and they work great.I've had my set almost 10yrs,and use 2 of them daily on pick-up trucks when I do Plow installs and Roof-Top Lites(doing 1 tomorrow morning). The wood-block isn't a bad idea either.I do that when I can,it definitely helps.

i was joking about shooting it, lots of ideas on this thread, some overcomplicated. i drill these windows every day, just get the 3 piece step drill from harbor freight. you would have to be drilling pretty carelessly, or pressing way too hard for the window to break. use the bit with the smallest steps.

Take a look at this, half way down it tells how to drill acrylic, and how to cut it and to clear the edges. Hope this helps.
