Oh heck yeah, changing just the air filter will make a yamaha run like crap if not re jetted. To the point of being un-driveable. |

Re: plow man's carb jets
Joe, I had a gutted filter housing , a stock muffler, and I'm at 1100 ft elevation, with a 285cc stock motor. I drilled the jet out .042. You jet to elevation and engine mods. If your close to these specs, bet you'll be satisfied!! Plowmans jets arent marked, so you have to mic them.

Re: plow man's carb jets
You make a hard run, (about 200 ft, full throttle, then kill ignition before you lift off throttle. With an up to temp motor. Let it sit 10 minutes to cool with the seat up. Pull the spark plug, and read the very tip of the electrode, (Plowmans instructions).
I don't understand this, so I go (old school) and read down the side of the porsulain for it to be light tan. Not white, white means its lean. What elevation are you running your car? Sounds like you need to start at the air filter housing, and make certain there are no air leaks. Drawing to much air, will make it run lean, causing you to use choke to close down the airflow. Just read your running open element filter, you will need to jet larger to compensate for that filter!! Probably need to go even bigger than .042 on jet, especially if your close to sea level!! |
