Default junkyard 2000 Yamaha G16 runs...oil light stays on

So I got my junkyard donor 2000 g16 engine running today, changed the oil, one qt of Castrol GTX..the oil light stays on even when the "key" is off and the oil is full right to the mark on the dipstick. From what I gather the side cover of the engine has to come off to replace the oil level sensor which is likely the culprit. I still need to find a low priced secondary clutch assembly and then I can start fitting the parts to our 2002 EZ Go electric "the zebra" (I was told when we purchased it earlier this summer it is from the movie zookeeper). The motor smokes a bit when revved up but not too bad. This winter I will likely pull it back out and rebuild it but for now the zebra just needs some hill climbing power. Any friendly advice for you cart wizards out there? Or MAYBE someone else has put a Yamaha gas drive assembly in an electric ez go before? Thanks

Mine did the same thing. The wire that runs through the block (on the backside) was rubbing on the frame. It wore the insulation off. The light stayed on even with key off.
If its full of oil, it should be ok. That sensor just detects oil level, not pressure.

Thanks for the tip. I can check the wire closely tomorrow!

You're gonna need a gas rear end if you want it to work like a golf cart. Using the elec rear will take some re-engineering...

Dave..sorry, I wasn't clear. I picked up the whole "rear subframe" from a 2000 G16a complete, well almost complete, both clutches were already gone.I initially was going to use the electric rear and add a separate trans. for reverse but this setup became available so my job got a bit easier! I will have all the electric parts (motor, controller, rear end..) left over to sell to help offset the cost a touch and hopefully help somebody with their carts as well.

OK--much easier. There may be a piece of crud in there affecting the oil sensor. Bounce it around a little bit...

Cool Thanks! Wire is not damaged and grounding out, so we will hope for crud LOL. The cart I pulled the rear subframe out of looked like it was rolled over had a tree dropped on it so anything is possible.

If you can't get it right, it's not worth the effort to repair it. It's just a level monitor...
