EZ Go oil Burner
My little 2 cyl Robbin engine in the 2001 EZ go cart just starts smoking like crazy and looks like it has no rings at all with the smoke screen it puts out. Only happens occasionally but very scary when it does. Engine finally dies but starts again when it cools off and smoking stops. Any ideas what the prob is and simple solutions? Cart located in nowhere Kauai and I'm the fixit guy in the area. Best places to buy rebuilt kits? Maybe just buy a rebuilt engine? Need help a sap as this is our Beach cart and I'm too old to haul all that stuff to the beach every day for grandkids.

Re: EZ Go oil Burner
Is your cart lifted? If so, your dipstick is no longer accurate.
Drain the oil, and put in exactly 1.5 quarts. |

Re: EZ Go oil Burner
Thx. I'll give that a try first thing tomorrow when I change the oil from 10/40 synthetic to 20/50 high mileage. 1.5 Qts of it. Yes the cart is lifted.

Re: EZ Go oil Burner
I thought you said it's 2 cycle? But you change oil in it?

Re: EZ Go oil Burner
2 cyl is cylinder. Being a 2001 is also a dead giveaway that it's a 4 stroke.

Re: EZ Go oil Burner
I would also guess too much oil.. I normally go just shy of 1.5 but that's just me. Be gentle with the 10mm bolts. If you strip them it would be bad. It may have fouled the plugs as well or at least harmed them. Could be NGK2ES or 4ES or 5ES depending on what it was built with..

Re: EZ Go oil Burner
Bad news! I changed the oil & it had 1.5 Qts in it so I replaced it with 1.5 Qts of 20/50 oil and cleaned the oil that had jumped up into the air filter case so it was all clean & dry. Then fired it up a took for a spin. Runs fine but is an oil burner and needs a ring job. 1480 hrs on the old engine so it has wear. Can I buy a short block somewhere? Best place to look? Maybe a long block ready to go? Any idea what an engine might weigh?

Re: EZ Go oil Burner
could it possibly be residual oil that is burning off? or do you think it is pushing oil into the cylinders? could it just be valve seals? did the muffler get filled up somehow? It doesn't take anything to hone and re ring. these are great little engines. I hate to see someone throw one away and short block it. that takes the availability out of the market. unless they have a core on them.

Re: EZ Go oil Burner
Great questions. I find that the carb side of the air cleaner is full of oil and that is what causes the big smoke screen. Don't know how that happens? It should not ever happen? I hate to rebuild the entire engine if it's just a small thing.
