'95' G14: How to replace driven clutch ramp shoes?
Does the driven clutch need to be removed? If so does it require a puller? And how to remove the shoes? Bolts? Just snap in? Thanks

Re: '95' G14: How to replace driven clutch ramp shoes?
Thanks for the reply and info;
Yes this one has black shoes so I guess that means they bolt in, Do you know how long the bolts are? By the looks of it they might be replaceable without removing the clutch IF the bolts are less than maybe 3/4"ish long..... Oooops, I guess the shoes themselves would also have to be less than that deep also to clear. Hmmm...... So that's what the puller looks like, Cool!! Is it possible to just push the sheave back on or is there some kind of compressor tool needed to install? Thanks again |

The new shoes will come with new allen head fasteners. I don't think you'll be able to do it without disassembly.

Thanks for the pics, I ordered new shoes and a belt for the owner as instructed and told him he'll probably have to buy a puller. I'll post a follow up next week, Thanks for the great info

You can do them in the car, but it is a bit harder.
Pulling the clutch is easy, Ive never used a puller, but since you ordered one, my as well use it. |

Having replaced the white shoes and the black shoes, attempting to do it with the clutch in place sounds horrible. A lot of swearing involved. I would definitely just open it up.

I have a really bad *** way of doing the white ones. 15 minutes without removing the clutch. Great money maker back in the day. No swearing...….I swear

Re: '95' G14: How to replace driven clutch ramp shoes?
The OEM original "white" push in ramp shoes could have been replaced with aftermarket "black" cheap ramp shoes at some point. The older style spring seat is not as beefy as the new style with screws that hold in the newer style ramp shoes. I would bet if you take it apart and check the sliding sheave bushing, it would be worn. With it taken apart, you can check all the components and fix what is needed. Not a "money maker", just a job done correctly. Good luck on your project.

He's an old dude friend that's not in very good health so I'm just trying to help him out, Although he did say he'd buy me a 5th of whiskey if I get it done LOL.... So you CAN get the outer sheave off without a puller? I suspect ya just kinda work it back and forth and maybe lightly tap it with a hammer or something? How about putting it back on? Is it possible to just push it enough by hand to get the nut started? Thanks |
