Re: First post. Cart newbie with G16 project.
All the sound advice is appreciated!
I would not try to convert without a 4 stroke rear end. I make knives and have a Bridgeport mill, a surface grinder, 3 hp belt grinder , mig welder. Shop press and hand tools and some limited prior experience in a fab shop plus space in my shop for this projects likely lengthy timeframe so I am pretty well equipped for the endeavor. There is also a well stocked steel dealer and fab shop here in town for sourcing materials for fab work. I havent gotten as far as seriously thinking about a motor yet. |

Re: First post. Cart newbie with G16 project.
Just thought I would post an update here since you guys chimed in with advice and suggections.
Someone could have warned me of this obsession before I got started . I found and acquired a gas donor cart. A 2001 ezgo txt gas cart in pieces. After getting it home I decided it was a better candidate for resurrection than the G16. Only problem was the $500 or so in trinkets I was missing just to have a rolling chassis. Ended up picking up a second Ezgo. 2004 electric with complete suspension and roof components to ultimately be THE cart converted to gas with the first donor carts gas parts. Scored a Jake's 3" spindle lift off Facebook marketplace brand new in the box for $80 which fit my budget build and was exactly what I needed being 2001.5 and up gas lift. Stripped the electric rear end out and installed the gas with the lift kit. The yamaha hasn't ceased to be useful yet. Sold the motor and got half my money back plus stole the swingarm to use as the base for my engine cradle. I didnt want to just let the thread die without an update. I will let it go after this and likely post any further threads in the Big Block or clone swap sections. Have not decided on a motor yet. VC 460 is looking attractive as is the 625. I appreciate ya'lls advice here ! -Cubmaster Josh |
