I have a 1986 Club Car and I just replaced the igniter, the one that goes to the spark plug, cost me $195. and it has the limiter built inside of the one piece igniter, not separate.

DO NOT unhook rev limiter on KF82. You will be sorry. Then again I have some FE290s and FE350s to replace it when you scatter it. KF 82 Motor will not take high RPMs

If I disconnect the governor can I trust the Rev Limiter to save my engine?

To a degree yes. Rev limiters will invariably default down or just plain quit running altogether. This will allow your your cart to run but at at very low speed or zero. This appears to be a factory default inbuilt system which is why some of us choose to delete them altogether and run using a tach to control our wild excesses. You have to make a careful choice here; am I going to run wild and risk blowing my motor or am I circumspect and use the power prudently.
Your choice but the limiter has it's advantages particularly if young ones or drunken clowns are on board. Pick wisely and choose the path that suits your lifestyle.

I have to diagree with that post. I have a KF82 and run it at 4000 rpm's all the time. I have run it this way for over 4 years now and I drive it alot. Like a tank a week and more yearround. I have a tack on it so I know what revs I'm running.

Yes, they are very expensive! Try and find one is a trick. I called over 40 places before I finally found one in Florida. If anyone needs a igniter for the older Club Cars let me know.
Cheers!
