Cart Cart, 89 Marathon reconstruction
Cart Cart is what this beast is named. Got it cheap and it needs some TLC.
So far I have stripped the body off(lots of fun), removed the engine and rear. It was a two cycle engine so I am swapping out the rear and will give it a new soul with a predator engine. Right now I am trying to get it stripped to the frame, have the frame, swing arm and engine cradle blasted, painted and reassembled. I intend to add a 4"-5" lift kit (haven't decided if I will use a kit or fab one myself). I like the drop axle kit by Jakes, but I am trying to keep the cost down right now. Today while removing the rear assembly I had to dang near cut the right rear swing arm bracket off as the bolt was ceased up pretty good due to corrosion from a battery leak. The leak also destroyed part of the frame and battery tray and I have to decide how to reconstruct this area. I am open to any suggestions or ideas( see pics below). All of this and I am still having fun Thanks for reading, all responses welcome |

Do you still have the drive clutch from the old engine? It might or might not work but if it's cheap I'm looking desperately for one. I'll even take the secondary off your hands if you'd want to part with them. Looking at the pics though, that rear is a much different setup than an 88. Not sure if the drive clutch would even mate to a 2PG engine.

I do not have it. Have you tried golf cart sales in Goldsboro MD? He has a ton of used parts and may have what you are looking for.

Good luck your build. I'll be watching. Your frame looks almost as bad as the frame from the 99 workhorse, my fab skills aren't advanced enough to replace all the parts and a fab shop wanted to much so I moved on to another cart.

The frame for the most part is solid. It did have a few bad spots around the battery tray. I have cut those out and will have those replaced this week. The hardest of the reconstruction is going to be cutting the swing arm mount off the rotted frame and re-welding it in place. I tried finding a new mount to make it a little easier but havent had any luck.

Re: Cart Cart, 89 Marathon reconstruction
id cut it with a cut off wheel/grinder as to save as much steel"length"as poss..mine seemed to have a lil extra room there from the swing arm edge to the frame so hopefully yours will the same..
