Default 1995 G14AM dead spot on starter

we have a 1995 yamaha G14AM Ultima code JN3 that starts and runs fine 98% of the time
it has a dead spot on the starter sometimes we have to roll it forward to get it to start
the g14 seems to be a one year model, though my research indicates it has the same starter/generator as the g2 to g14 models

bad brushes or bad armature?
are all the g2 - g14 starter/generators the same?

I would think bad brushes if they are worn out don't run that way or it will cause more damage. brushes are cheep & don't take long at all to put in

I agree, take it apart, may be a stuck or worn out brush's. If the armature is damaged, it must be replaced or it will allways "arc" on the portion of the comutator. Yes, all G2 thru G14 starter's are the same.
