I recently went through the same problem and determined even though the cart runs doesn't mean it is charging. When I pulled off the starter/gen and had it inspected we figured out the brushes were wearing irregular and once that was fixed I also determined my regulator was also bad. The best thing to do is test with voltage meter and determine where your problem is. Like everyone said, you should have more voltage coming in running (14-15 volts) then when it is not running.

found out that the voltage regulator wasn't grounded. ran a wire to ground and now it charges and the clicking from the solenoid is gone.
Thanks everyone for all your help sometimes the simplest fix is the hardest to find. Now I have a new problem :( need belts and a clutch problem. It'll be running eventually |
