That's what he is saying..... And he is correct; if your cart was designed for 48 volts it is not going to run at all with 36 volts...

You have a 48 volt cart. So you need 48 volts to make it run, not 36 volts

8 - 6 volts = 48 volts

6 - 8 volt

4 - 12 volt batteries

How many water caps or cells per battery?

3 cells = 6 volts
4 cells = 8 volts
6 cells = 12 volts

If I wire it the other way, Red on + ending with black on - I don,t get any thing at all, well maybe a little noise from the reversing alarm and the battery light on the dash comes on a little.

So what am I doing wrong?

Well ??? Apparently it does run on 36v.... abliet backwards and through fences

Yeah, the motor will turn on 12 volts too, but I don't think the system will operate on 12 volts.
