growling noise in front end
My wife has an 08 emerge with less than 600 miles. It has always made this noise. You never know if or when it will happen. I have jacked it up and spun the wheels when the noise occurred and nothing. I have been driving it back and forth to work for 2 weeks (about 4 miles a day) and the noise has happened 3 times. Any ideas???

Re: growling noise in front end
Rear Axle bearings are common to fall apart. Tough for a novice to see. Noise comes and goes because it breaks the cage of the bearing and a piece will fall down around the brake shoes and rub on the drum.

Re: growling noise in front end
You said front end, my bad.
Brake pads don't get worn out at 600 miles, so I would rule that out. I would again look at front wheel bearings- they put very little grease in those from the factory, and I have seen the bearings fall apart but rare on the front. Taking it apart will tell the story |
