RXV Steering Problem
2008 RXV, Electric with 6" Jakes lift Kit. This problem is hard to describe but steering seems loose and does not control the cart. Front wheels has light shimmy. Tires are 23x10.5x12 Kenda Terra Trac. Definitely not for highway use but that is where I am driving it around my neighborhood. Sorry that's all the info I can offer. Bottom line is the steering is so bad I'm afraid to drive it except at very low speeds. I know this is not a lot of info to go on but would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks |

Re: RXV Steering Problem
Lots of things that you can check. I would start with lower A-arm bushings and the hub bearings. I had a 2009 a while back that had excessive play in the steering box that caused it to float as well. Replacing the box was the fix for that one. My current 2013 RXV needed both lower A-Arm bushings replaced. They are just hard plastic and do wear.

Re: RXV Steering Problem
I have a 2010. When I had the jakes 6" spindle lift on it, I had a similar issue which boiled down to an alignment issue. Also, many of my roads have a crown which exasperated the feeling of a loose mis-aligned cart. I have the same size tires. Verify your alignment and report back. You should have a slight toe in...I believe a 1/4"...but verify with the installation instructions.

Re: RXV Steering Problem
Before you can do an alignment you must take apart the front suspension and check all of the bushings, bearings, and pins for wear, and replace any that are worn. Check the stearing rack for wear as well. The suspension needs to be tight and have no slop in it before you can begin an alignment.

Re: RXV Steering Problem
I have seen some steering racks on Rxv ruined by lift kits that put the tie rods in a bind.
