Default G22 Smoking bad

I have a 2003 G22 that drives fine but is smoking profusely. I drained the oil, it had a little under a quart in it. There is probably a teaspoon amount of oil in the air box. Which direction should I head with this? Are the rings the problem, and is there anyway to test for that or should I just dive in?

You can try cleaning out the airbox, then give it an "Italian tune-up" (drive it hard), see if it clears up. I think it's gonna be rebuild time, but it can't hurt to try.

I just bought a G22 '03 from a guy who didn't want to fix it. It was smoking really bad. I put in fresh oil with STP treatment and high octane/no ethanol gas with some marvel's mystery oil. Cleaned the aftermarket carb on there but it was having needle/float problems so I replaced it with an OEM carb. Put on a new fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plug and air filter and a couple of fuel lines.
I wanted to do all this before leaping into replacing rings. glad I did because after all this I ran it and though I smoked out the neighborhood for 10 minutes, the smoke eventually slowed then stopped now it does not smoke at all.

Good luck!
