Default G29 crazy starter voltage?

Yamaha g29 starter generator is jumping up to 16 to 17 V while running and blowing the radio, put in and mine voltage regulator just for radio and it burns it up, then I put a new onboard voltage regulator on and it just burned it up also, don't know what's making all the power?

Have you tried replacing voltage regulator with new oem? Also trave the green wire coming off started generator and make sure it's not grounded anywhere that will cause it to put out 16-17v

Yamaha gassers charge pretty "hot". They figured that 300 feet between golf tees and strokes stops/starts wasn't going to be long enough to keep a battery charged without some serious power.

Yes I put a new voltage regulater on and it worked for a little while but then it burnt out I guess, sometimes it even jumps to 19v for a second,I don't see any where the green wire could be shorting out unless it's in inside of starter, might have to break it open

I know... reason why when I had to change my electronic one, I searched and installed the adjustable version, not easy to find! A lot of suppliers propose "hitachi-like" VRs which are not adjustable but I found one at golfcartcare.com; no idea if they still have it.

As CgTech indicated, Yamaha compensate numerous starts on golf courts by high voltage to recharge the battery but the way I (and several of us) use my cart is different.

Electronic ones are supposed to regulate around 15.5V but often it goes higher. This being said, 19V is by far too high and it must be toasted...

Ive seen the yamahas get a wild charge voltage and charge higher than 16 volts, most of the time the voltage will "dance" between 15 and 16 volts. As started, that's how Yamaha designed it, and for the reason stated.
