Default G2 igniter replacement

I had trouble with my g2 (1985) Jan. 2017 and my cart repair shop traced it to my igniter. He gave a used one that he had laying around and it worked for a year!

The same problems have now returned: the cart stops, then when I give it gas the cart just surges forward an inch or two at a time. Eventually it won't respond. The gas tank is full, all filters and lines are clean, new battery. I'm not sure how to test the igniter, but since the symptoms are exactly the same as last time, and all of what I can find on BGW and other help sites seem to point to the igniter, I think it must be the problem.

I have an appointment scheduled with my cart repair shop on 1-22, but have found a used igniter for $95. It was taken from a G9, and the seller says it probably will work on a G2, just wondered what the Forum thinks my next step should be?

The OEM coil/pulsar is much preferred over an aftermarket part. A new one can be had for less than the used one you're looking at. A simple spark tester from an auto parts store is a handy tool to have...

Aftermarket electrical parts from China seem to have a high failure rate...

He was asking about the ignitor

instead of the pulsar & the ignitor is significantly more expensive. That said, I think most all of us are in agreement about the Chinese parts. It looks like this ignitor was used on G2 & G5 models but not on G9. While it may seem to be the same symptoms there are several parts involved in creating the spark: Pulsar, Ignitor & Ignition Coil. It needs more testing before I would start buying parts.

A G9 ignitor is different then a G2 ignitor. They do not interchange.

I have a working G2 ignitor that I pulled out of my 1990 G2 during my swap to a VC 625. Send me a PM and we can work something out!

First time using Quick Reply, not sure if it's going to you or the Forum. I'd like to get your igniter for my 1985 G2, what do you have in mind?

I haven't been on the site long enough to be able to post PMs. But I would like to make an agreement about the G2 igniter that you have.
