Default G16 bogs under full throttle without choke

I have a G16 that my father has had for 20 years that began running poorly both at idle and under full throttle. It would not run at all without the choke. I noticed the threads and decided to give it an update. I replaced the the fuel pump, carb, gaskets between the carb/spacer/block and airbox all fuel lines, fuel filter, cleaned out the fuel tank and put fresh fuel in it. Also replaced both drive and starter/gen belts and all of the motor mounts.

Once that was complete, it started right up as if it was brand new and idled smoothly (even without the choke), however, when I quickly press the accelerator, there is a slight hesitation and "bog" before is accelerates, although it eventually does. If I hold the choke out, this hesitation goes away completely, and the throttle response is instant. I am thinking that the cart is running lean. Is there a mixture adjustment for wide open throttle (as it idles well)? I inspected the spacer/airbox for cracks and there were none. Also, a propane test yields no increase in RPM. The hesitation occurs without or without "load" on the engine. What else am I missing?

The cart is all stock with the exception of a 4" Jakes lift and larger diameter wheels.

The only adjustment is in the pilot circuit.

What carb did you buy? OE Yamaha?

That money is probably wasted. Aftermarket carbs are notoriously bad.

Fair enough.... it was insanely cheap so not much lost there. I kept the OEM carb, so I might give it a good once-over and toss it back in there and see how things go.

Good plan. Disassemble the carb 100% & clean everything in the OEM carb, and I mean everything.

Shopyamaha.com has part numbers & diagrams that will show you what parts are removable. Black "limiter cap" will have to come off one screw to remove.

I've bought three replacement carbs for my G16. The first two came from a major online golf cart company for about $100 and they were garbage. Both carbs would allow the engine to run but not well. No matter how I cleaned, adjusted and fiddled I could not get the cart to drive "right". I finally broke down and ordered the proper Mikuni and the cart has run great ever since.

And... I kept the old, original Mikuni for parts and threw the two cheap Chinese clones in the recycling bin.

The cheapo fakes say "mokini" instead of "mikuni" on the side of the carb body.

Man, another bad china carb. Imagine that. I really hate china imitation parts. They copy everything. Make them look really nice on the outside, meanwhile they are made with potmetal and scrap.
