Troubleshooting slow speed on a 93 DS
I bought a 1993 Club Car DS (36v) off a neighbor as a "project" not knowing the first thing about carts so I'm at the "firehose of information" stage.
She'll do about 12 mph on the flat, yet even over the slightest incline, the speed will noticeably drop off. I have Trojan batteries that are about 7 years old and while they're getting up there in age, they all tested well both individually and under load. I'm contemplating my next step and not sure what to try first. In any case, it seems it'll mean spending money but I want to ensure the highest probability of a positive outcome, so what should my next step be; replace the V-glide or maybe go right to the controller or ??? Thanks. |

Re: Troubleshooting slow speed on a 93 DS
If you really want to make it go faster you'll need to go to 48v.
Now if the batteries are 7 years old they have had a great life. You can replace with lead again or go lithium depending on your budget. What are your goals for it? What kind of terrain is it on? Asphalt, off road, hills? How many people will ride? Rear seat? Lift kit? Big wheels? This will help with letting people know which direction you are going in and will recommend what to do. Re: Troubleshooting slow speed on a 93 DS
Thanks for the response.
Hard to set a budget when I don't know how long a piece of string is I'm only using it once in a while around the neighborhood on asphalt roads. Larger tires and a lift kit are likely, but I'm not prepared to spend money on lithium. And while 48v isn't out of the question, I'm under the impression a new high-speed motor could be more cost-effective with the existing 36v system than changing over to 48v. I only say this because a neighbor did it and is very pleased with the results. I have a rear seat, so up to 4 people could be on it, but that would be rare. |

Re: Troubleshooting slow speed on a 93 DS
Replacing batteries would be the obvious immediate option. New batteries are in your near future regardless, so that would be my first step. You may be satisfied with that. They may test OK, but at 7 years old, they are not what a new set will be like and you will notice the difference.
