Clutch Removal Method
Hey everyone, not sure if this has been shared before, but thought I'd add this to help someone. I've read a few threads about clutch pullers and finding fine threaded 7/8 bolts to remove the clutches. Well there I was, in my shop on a Sunday and needed to remove the clutch. No stores are open and I don't want to wait to order a puller or go online to find a bolt. So, I scrounged around my garage and found an old 1 7/8 trailer hitch ball....You guessed it, the threads were 7/8 fine and I easily pulled the clutch using a bolt / spacer and the trailer hitch ball (turned with a pipe wrench). Now I'll admit it wasn't pretty working on an engine with a pipe wrench....but it worked very well. The ball was a "valley" brand. So perhaps if any of you find yourself looking for a puller or special bolt (not all fastener stores carry a good selection over 3/4") you may be able to find a hitch ball at one of the autoparts centers...... Good Luck. JT

Got to love Yankee ingenuity, even south of the Mason Dixon line.

yeah!!!!! now that's what i'm talking about!!!! right on. you are awesome. great job thinking outside the old box. my clutch came off using an old bolt, impact wrench, and a whole lot of heat. but i really didn't care about my motor......your experience may vary.
