Help installing crank on 88 EZGO engine rebuild
I'm in the process of rebuilding my 1988 EZGO 2 stroke. Everything is torn apart. I've got the crank seals in already, but I cant get the bearings on the crank. I had them in the crank case halves, tried to get the crank in there and pull the halves together, but it wont go. I'm a good 2-3" away.
How do I get the crank bearing to go over the crank? Press (dont have one)? Anyone have any pics of their bottom end rebuild? or pics of their old partly disassembled motor, so I can make sure everythings going together right? |

This may sound crazy but one method that may work is to put the crank in the freezer if you have a chest freezer it will be better they are generally colder than a normal over fridge freezer, make it as cold as possible the metal will shrink a little but may be just enough.

You'll need a press to get everything seated good and square. Try talking to a local machine shop and see if they can help. Might cost a dollar or two, but worth it knowing it's right.

Re: Help installing crank on 88 EZGO engine rebuild
Well, I got it back together. I was trying to rebuild it this weekend, but it had to wait. I tried freezing the crank, but still couldnt get it. I took it into work today and pressed it in.
Now i'm going to get the top end on, and throw it all back together. Thanks for the help |

Be sure that the piston is facing right direction when you put it all together, it's no fun to have to redo it.

Re: Help installing crank on 88 EZGO engine rebuild
I think I got it in right... hole in piston facing away from exhaust?
I wasnt the one who took the engine out of the cart, how is the engine oriented in the cart? The carb appears to go on with the bowl facing sideways. Does this engine lay down in the cart? I only have the manual for the 89+, and mines an 88. Anyone have any pics or a manual or something to help me get this thing figured out and in? |
