Marathon project?
Couple pics of an EZGO I picked up last weekend --- part of a package deal with a G2 I wanted. Couldn't afford not to buy it. Engine is out (in two boxes) with a broken piston skirt. Don't know anything else about it other than it appears to be complete. Don't know the year or type of engine (2 stroke) other than it is probably stock. No rust evident except just a bit of surface rust --- nothing structural.
Don't know whether I'll work on this one, sell it or part it out. I'm not a mechanic but do OK replacing parts ... like the guys down at the local shop. |

Re: Marathon project?
i believe you have a 79. it should have a 2pg engine in it. these are fairly easy to rebuild. lots of info here if you decide to do it. good luck.

Re: Marathon project?
Thanks. A '79, huh? Darned good shape for a 32 year old machine. Maybe I will try to rebuild it. It won't be soon though. Winter is my "down time" but I already have enough projects lined up to take care of this winter ... and maybe the next. :-) I'm farming, so spring, summer and fall usually have me to busy to even check this forum more than every couple weeks or so. :-( Right now I'm checking/fixing fences, watering stock in the hills, getting ready for fall round-up, ... but next month things should start slowing down.

Re: Marathon project?
I don't want to rain on your parade but a word of caution.......
Many parts for the pre 1980 carts are no longer available including all the internal starter generator parts, the voltage regulator and the crankshaft. I would recommend that before you start to spend any serious money on this thing you have a look to see if it runs on points (as opposed to an electronic ignition) and if it has the internal starter/generator. You might consider finding a 1981 to 1988 engine which will drop pretty much straight in (you will also need a new regulator and hei mod) but also be aware that the 1989 and later 2 stroke will not. Re: Marathon project?
Hmmm. Thanks for that info --- could help me from making a costly mistake. Anything else I should know about?

Just asking --- it might be interesting to read your ideas. :-) But please don't abandon this thread. I'm still learning. |
