Inline toggle switch for reducer question
Hello to all! I am new to the cart world and have been getting great info from the forum so decided to join. I am preparing to add a 36v to 12v reducer on the cart and have a simple question. I want to run a toggle lighted switch in line to keep the voltage reducer from being powered up all the time. I dont want to run it to the key switch. Does the toggle switch need to be a 36v switch since it will just be on the hot supply to the reducer? I have several 12v 16amp toggles on hand. Any help would be really appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Re: Inline toggle switch for reducer question
If the reducer you have does not have a provision for turning it off like a switch circuit, then you will need a HD relay that can safely switch a power leg on and off. Use a relay like the chargers use.
Some reducers have a switch circuit and these wires can simply be run to a toggle or key switch. I hope this helps |

Yes that is great and the pic is awesome! Thank you. My converter only has two wires in and two out. So if I use this relay then the converter will energize when I turn on and off my key correct? Thanks agian!

Re: Inline toggle switch for reducer question
I went to our local auto supply and ask the same question. All the guys they're said I could use a heavy duty toggle switch. They recommended a 50amp HD switch. I installed and so far everything is working fine.

Keep Scottys post handy,I wasted a bunch of hd switches before I put the relay in,my cart is 48v and every time the switch would go it would weld itself closed.Dave

Re: Inline toggle switch for reducer question
Nothing wrong with this setup electrically. My only concerns are the location of the switch, the fuse(s), and the switch needs to be waterproof (no matter where it's located).
