The shorter belt is by far a simpler install. Even if it was more expensive I'd still go with the shorter belt.

I've owned carts that have gone all 3 routes (Spring, Belt, or 28 degree Clutch) - In fact my current pet project has a 28deg clutch AND a shorter belt to compensate a bit for 6:1 gears in the rear end (and compensate it does, WOW) ... Personally, I feel if You're running the original driven clutch the belt will give You the most noticeable takeoff improvement, but the torque spring *does* edge it out improvement-wise with multiple riders on bigger hills. Keep in mind You don't have to replace your entire driven clutch to go 28 degree, You can easily swap the Helix and Ramp Buttons for around $65 and turn Your stock DC into a 28, THAT IMHO is probably the best all-around improvement You can make, both accel AND climbing.

Isn't it a real pain to tear your driven clutch apart though?

I have replaced the torque spring in the driven clutch on mine and it did make a very noticable difference going up hills. You won't get there quick necessarily, but the rpm's do stay at a decent range. BrewCity....do you know where I can get the helix and ramp buttons to make my clutch a 28 degree? Its a 1990 marathon.

Would u mind telling me the belt manufacture and part # of your new belt? I'm in the same boat and figured I'd start with a shorter belt. Thanks!

Belt #22337g1 which is 41" long finally put mine on and it makes a world of difference on take off and going up hill but looks like i lost some speed on top end, overall i'm satisfied
