Re: 1999 EZGO smelling hot near F&N/Control Box
Look at the system like this.... The battery pack stores amperage which the motor must burn to perform a given task. The controller, solenoid, F&R, and all cables are all pieces of the amperage delivery system. Given a direct connection the motor would draw 100% of the battery pack until something failed.
So we have an amperage regulator = speed control. It requires a safety switch at the main supply = the solenoid Amperage needs pathways to flow = 13pc cable set directional change is made via a rotary switch = F&R If you change the current demand (big tires, slow driving, upgrade motor, add load, etc) then you need to increase the amperage supply and upgrade the delivery components I hope this helps |

One final comment if you're new to electricity.
A motor will "ask for" whatever it needs to satisfy the demand you're asking it to perform. The controller will give it the voltage and amperage the motor asks for, and the cables and switches (FNR and solenoid) need to be large enough to handle that without overheating. Roughly, voltage gives you speed and amperage gives you torque. More amperage needs bigger cables and switches, and ultimately, a controller capable of providing that without overheating. |
