Default Re: Installing a G2 differential into a G1

Thanks for your compliments.
Took it for a drive after installing the differential which turned out interesting. Got two miles away from home and it started steering funny. After watching the drivers front wheel it became apparent that the front wheel was wobbling. Popped the hub cap and the castle nut falls on the ground. Forgot the cotter key when installing a new bearing. Didn't take much to put it back on but these thing keep us humble.
Did manage to get the forward and reverse linkage adjusted and it works good now.
Probably won't be much road driving until the high speed gears are installed.

LOL. Glad it ended happily. I did the same thing last week, but it was the lug nuts. I was driving and there was this wobble....what the....looked down at the wheel, only one nut was finger tight, the other three were "finger loose" LOL!

So the gears you got? Are they 8:1? I'm actually considering the same thing. I'd like to see pics of how you do the swap. I don't think there is a thread here about the Yamaha gears. Might start a new one....could make it a sticky!

I haven't ordered any gears yet but will probably be 8 to 1. Rumor has it this will give me 8 to 10 mph on the top end. If I'm wrong please let me know. I have 18 x 9.5 x 8 on the back now. When (?) I get time to lift the front a couple inches those tires are going to the front and 20 x 9.5 x 8 will go on the back.
When the time comes I'll try for photos. I'll for sure take some when I open it up so I can see how it goes back together.

Yes, the clutches will actually interchange from one rear to the other.

I am using my Plowman's G1 clutch on my G2 rear. Works great.
