Converting 1990 marathon to 48 volts
Ok, so this is my first post here and I'm new to golf carts. I just bought a 1990 marathon ez go cart and I'm wanting to upgrade it to 48 volts. I will be honest I know absolutely nothing about these carts or what's required to convert to 48 volts. I do know after reading multiple posts I want to use 8 6 volt batteries. And I'd like to go with the best controller I can to get the most out of the stock motor. And I'd like it to be big enough that if in the future I decide to upgrade the motor it will allow me to get the most from a better motor. Since like i said before Im lost at what I'm needing to do this conversion so does someone sell a kit that has all the components needed for this. I'd like good quality parts but at the same time I'd like to not break the bank. Any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Also is there a post on here that explains step by step how to install a conversion and maybe a detail explanation of how all the components work together. Thanks in advance for all the info and hopefully I can learn many things from your responses.

Re: Converting 1990 marathon to 48 volts
I also converted my Marathon to 48v with 8 6v batteries. You will see this repeated often, but talk to ScottyB. He helped me immensely and offered me a range of options. I went with a 500 amp controller, HD F/R switch and solenoid as I also lifted my cart. I made up my own 2ga cables. I also had the basic motor rewire by PlumQuick. With 22" tires I do an honest 26mph with two people which is double what it used to do.
Before you start tearing stuff out, make sure you take pictures of all the wires from multiple angles to use as a reference. Scotty will send a diagram along with what you buy that will help too. |
