RXV Grinding Noise
I have a 2010 EZGO RXV. When I hit the throttle I hear a grinding noise coming from the rear. Like two gears slipping. Almost like a spun Hub. It's not everytime. Just most of the time. But the cart moves fine. No hesitation. I let off the throttle and it goes away. Any ideas what the noise is?

Re: RXV Grinding Noise
What have you checked? Axle hubs? The TXT "spun hub" thing did not disappear with the rxv, it now usually kills the posi unit by forcing the posi to send power to the wheel that still has splines. Eventually the posi cant do its job any more (it has slipped too many times), then starts making noises, and finishes by no longer pushing the cart above walking speed.

Re: RXV Grinding Noise
I agree with CG. Sounds like hubs.
Axle bearings noise is usually more constant. |

Re: RXV Grinding Noise
Honestly I haven't checked much. I'm not very good at troubleshooting.
The cart has no hesitation at all. I would think with a spun hub I would feel something.... But maybe not. Also the noise is hit and miss. Yesterday it was bad. Almost like there is a rock in the motor. Then I went out later in the day. There was 4 adults in the cart.... No noise at all. Strange. |

Re: RXV Grinding Noise
So I took it out today. When I first got in it the noise was there. After a few minutes it went away. I took it out on so big hills. Turned left and right and punched the throttle. Everything worked fine.
What can I do to troubleshoot? Should I start pulling it apart? What should I look for? |

Re: RXV Grinding Noise
Give this a try.... takes about 45min.
Pull rear wheel(s). Remove cotter pin,Castle nut and washer. Pull hub assy off. Clean splines on axle shaft and hub. Grease splines and re-assymble. Be sure to tighten castle nut. This can cure a grindy/crunchy sound from rear wheels. If splines in hub are stripped, replace hub (DUH) |

Re: RXV Grinding Noise
If noise is worse at low creep speed, this may be fix,,,
Just look at splines in hub and on axle. Rust --OK Metal flakes-- BAD Good luck -- Keep us posted !!!! Seems to be related to loose castle nut and flex between axle and hub.. We tighten the (*&^%#^%$% out of hub nut. Last edited by HiTechRedNeck; 04-03-2015 at 06:28 PM.. Reason: Add stuff |

Re: RXV Grinding Noise
"ezgo school" (lol) told me it was fine to torque the nut to up to 125 ft/lb. Overtighten it huh? (just short of admitting its a problem they know about).
