Could one use a voltage reducer in the charging circuit to only recharge the aux battery or would this require an auto shutoff circuit to prevent overcharging the aux battery?

The charge port gets full battery power all the time, not just when the charger is plugged in. So anything wired to it would also be powered up all the time. You could put a lighter socket on the cart, hooked up to the 12v battery, and put a male lighter plug on your 12v charger. Easy to plug in, and serves a purpose on the cart when not being used as a charge port (be sure to use a good quality lighter socket approved for a lighter, not just a "power point" and proper size wires to the battery).

Contact Chargetek in Camarillo, CA for one of their 48vdc input 12vdc battery chargers. I bought one for my electric lift truck for the same purpose. They aren't cheap if I remember.

So on the RXV or with a (-) keyswitch you would have to wire a toggle switch into the (+) line going from the reducer to the (+) battery? And then you would have to flip that toggle switch every time you want to turn the lights on in addition to pulling the light switch?
