Coil on fire...
Hi and thanks in advance,,i have an ezgo electric, not sure of the model cause I cant find the plate,,,but it has a coil..smelt something burning and got off and raised seat and it was burning,,,the seat had been covered and hung down and evidenty caught fire...Is it normal for the coil to get hot enough to burn?? should I put something over the coil?? I started the cart to see if it would run and it did..will it be ok to use now ??? it still smells and the coil is still getting hot but I didn't drive it anymore??

Re: Coil on fire...
The resistor coils in resistor drive Marathon carts will get red hot.
Does your cart look like the attached picture under the seat? |

Re: Coil on fire...
Okay, you have an earlier model year Marathon. (Marathon is a body style made by EZGO)
Does the motor in front of the differential, or is sitting sideways above the axle? |

Re: Coil on fire...
The coils getting hot is just the nature of the beast. Don't let anything that will burn or smell when hot, get against them.

Re: Coil on fire...
Or let birds or rats nest in there. I've gotten a surprise from a birds nest before when not looking hard enough before driving
