No reverse on a 95 TXT
Howdy ya'll. I'm new to this site but have read many posts and gathered lots of good info from here in the past. I've got a question that I cant find an answer for, so here goes.
I unloaded my 95 TXT from our car trailer yesterday and had no reverse. When I left the track the night before everything worked perfectly. I use it to pull our race car so I've put in a D&D hi torque motor, all new cables, new alltrax controller, (SPM48500ez) HD solenoid, HD F/R switch and new batteries. The cart has had these upgrades for several months and has been impressive. When I move the F/R switch to F- I can touch the accelerator pedal slightly and hear the solenoid "kick". And the LED on the alltrax goes green. (If I remove the connector from the alltrax the solenoid still "kicks" but of course no green light on the controller. However no matter what I do once I switch it to reverse I can't not get the solenoid to "Kick." Both micro switches on the F/R are working. The one thing that I'm looking at is wire bundle coming from the dash (I think) It has a blue wire that goes to the forward micro switch and a green wire that goes to a connector that then ultimately goes to the controller. When I put the controller in F the green wire is hot but when I switch to R that green wire goes dead. That same connector also has a wire bundle coming from the accelerator switch panel. (under the floor mat directly behind the accelerator pedal) My gut says something in the accelerator switch panel is the culprit. Though I'm not sure exactly how it works. It seems odd to me that the accelerator pedal would dictate forward of reverse. Any help will be highly appreciated. |

Sounds like the Cam in the F/R switch is not rotating far enough for the MS-2 contacts to close when you move the direction selector lever to R, or it could be the indentation on the circumference of the Cam that the roller on the "Run" microswitch lever is supposed to drop into, is filled with debris.
Electrically, the solenoid activation sequence is identical in both F or R, only the mechanical position of the cam is different. |

What Johnnie said > The same F&R micro switch (ms) works in both directions. Can be your switch is actually only being triggered in one direction. This can be caused by a cam alignment or a trigger arm problem.

Sorry for being so late in responding, I've not had the opportunity to get to a computer for a few days. I've torn my shop apart and for some reason all of my wiring schematics for this thing are missing, go figure.
If the same micro switch is controlling both F&R then I have a bad micro switch. I can hear (and see the contact make connection) when going into forward. I can also hear it make contact when going into Reverse. Coming off of the "output" side of the micro switch is a blue wire that is getting power when I'm in the F position but no power in the r position. I'll call EV drive and have them send me either a new micro switch or an entire new F/R switch. Kinda pisses me off that its bad considering there is less 3 hours run time on it but I guess stuff happens. |

I would remove the F&R cam, and "file out" the divot that the microswitch "drops into" in reverse gear to allow the switch to work right. It just needs to be widened a little. I have seen this so many times. I was glad to see JohnnyB describe it so easily, i wasnt sure how i was going to describe it. Then it slipped my mind. Oops.

Here is a schematic for a SPM in a series cart with an ITS.
Also attached is a drawing of a F/R switch assembly show the rollers on the lever arms of the microswitches dropping into the indentations on the circumference of the cam. The F/R switch assembly shown is for a Marathon, but the same assembly was used in the Medalist and TXT, it was just mounted upside down. The sequencing is the same. The tricky part is the microswitch's NC (Normally Closed) contacts are used and the lever arm has to be released for the NC contact to close. |

I'll get my fat head in there and watch to make certain that the roller on the bottom of the microswitch is falling into the reverse divit on the F&R cam. I can hear the switch click when I put it in reverse but I need to actually see where it is.
Thanks for the drawing, a picture is worth a thousand words. I'm not sure why it would not be going into that divit all of the sudden but I guess weirder things have happened. |

It was the microswitch not fully seating into the detent. I made a quick adjustment and I'm back in business.
