Default Cable between f&r switch and controller getting hot?

The cable (4g) between the f&r switch and controller is getting hot and you can smell it. I have a 2000 txt series with a SPM 48500 ( I think) and was wondering what I can do to fix this. Noticed this smell while riding around Ocean Lakes campground while on vacation this week.

Is the F&R switch getting hot? Mine was and the smell was actually from the switch due to the high amperage cooking the plastic. The stock contacts on that are weak, Scotty will chime in too but you probably need a heavy duty F/R switch, I got one of his and it is practically cool to the touch, Is it the stock switch?

checked connections and there was one loose so we tightened it up and switched out the burnt cable with another but had to put 4g back on as that is all they had. Only drove it a little while back to site and then to beach once or twice and still have the burning smell and the cable still gets hot.

Likely the F&R connection is arcing and the cable is just getting radiated heat. Check the F&R studs with a digital heat gun or a finger ... that's about to get burnt.

Yeah....as ScottyB has stated your F\R brass connectors are likely the culprit. If you pull your F\R switch apart you will likely find the brass "lugs" on that wire are burnt to either brown or even black. Or.....worse yet the board where they bolt thru could possibly be beginning to melt. In any case the best thing to do is replace the switch with a heavy duty F\R switch.

Unless....like me....you run your cart up and down steep hills, across creeks, over logs, and do fun stuff like that....then maybe consider a Reversing Contactor to replace the F\R switch. But if you don't abuse your cart like that....the HD switch should do ya fine.
