Next speed upgrade?
I am looking for input to help me decided which direction to go for my next speed upgrade. My current setup is EZGO PDS 36 volt (6 x 6V Trojan T105) with Alltrax DCX500. I have stock wheels and tires. I drive mostly on road.
Option 1: Upgrade to 48V. My T-105s are relatively new and installed February 2015, so I think I could still add 2 new ones. The expensive part will be getting a new 48 volt charger. Cost: 2 T105s about $210. DPI 48V charger $295. Sell DPI 36v charger -$125. Total $380 Option 2: Upgrade stock motor to Plum Quick Bandit. Cost: $225 Any thoughts about my two options? |

Option 3
Add one battery under the driver's seat $105. Don't send the motor in for a rewind. Save $225 + 2 $30 shipping bills = $285. Take savings and .... buy a DPI 42v charger $285 Zip around on a very happy motor at around 28 mph. |

Re: Next speed upgrade?
Im still not clear on why your would go 42 over 48v since you have to get a new charger anyway.

Re: Next speed upgrade?
The 42V option is intriguing. For those of you who run 7 batteries under the seat, how do you mount or tie the 7th one down?
I know the 42V DPI charger can be converted to 48V at a later time, but couldn't find the cost of the conversion. Any estimate on how much that cost? |

Re: Next speed upgrade?
Some people will run the stock PDS motor on 48v. I have never heard of one of these lasting years and years like the series motor do on 48v. But maybe we just are not getting the reports from happy owners. That happens.
I find the motor is less stressed on 42v and yes the 42v charger can be upgraded to 48v for about a $110 circuit board. To mount the 7th battery use a single battery hold down found at any auto parts house or tractor supply. |
