Re: 2009 Club Car Precedent troubleshooting
You are right, not as a function of ohm's law. I'll admit I have a limited understanding, especially compared to your vast knowledge and maybe I am not seeing it clearly but when speed increases, motor torque (amps) goes from stall current (max amps) at startup down to a point where it equals the load applied. At that point you have reached the terminal velocity. If battery voltage drops, the motor does not have the torque needed to maintain speed and slows down and amps increase. Or like I said before, maybe I'm not seeing this correctly?

That is similar to the way I understood it too. But since Sergio has more expertise in this field, I PM'd him my question and my understanding on it. (And I did not want to get us all too far off topic from this thread header)

Re: 2009 Club Car Precedent troubleshooting
The important qualifier from my statement was:
Quote:
If the current demand increases, the battery voltage will drop even lower since it could already not deliver the lower initial current. If You however have a healthy 48v pack that got connected incorrectly to a non-controller based Series cart so it only provides 36v, those batteries would be able to deliver the increased current that resulted from that wiring mistake. Controller carts will not exceed the designed output current so if properly configured it will not make a difference. |

Man, I would love to drop by for a tutorial. I'd bring wine, of course. Lot's of wine! I figure a few cases might be enough for you to teach me 10% of what you know!
Anyway, I think I understand what you are saying. I help out around a small fleet of sepex carts and see lots of melted cables and even a couple controllers and motor studs when batteries are run very low. |
