Am I paying too much?
Hello All,
1st post ever. I'm about to pick up a used Club Car DS from the mid 90's. It has dead batteries. It has lights, winshield, 4 seater, and weather flaps. Visibly it looks like it is good shape. Is $900 too much for this aged cart? (i know this is probably a loaded question) I'm new to this and everything I've been looking at is $2,500-4K used. New seems to be 7K plus. I figure new batteries are going to cost 600-$800. So if it is not a complete dog, I'm still well under the stuff I've been seeing online. I figure if it is a complete loser, I still should be able to rebuild it, with new and used stuff available. And not spend a ton doing it. All comments welcome. |

Re: Am I paying too much?
48 volt, and if everything else is perfect, and it runs when you put batteries in it, its an OK price

Re: Am I paying too much?
And if it is '95 or newer and a controller cart, even better. (If it is a regen 1 cart, ugh!)

Re: Am I paying too much?
Uh oh. I don't know what it is yet.
Regen1 is problematic? I really know nothing about these carts. But I am very handy and have worked on industrial equipment with electric motors and drive controllers before. Mostly AC motors with variable speed drives. Like KB and yaskawa brands. It looks as if there are two types in the age range old school resistors and relays or a variable voltage speed controller type. I have no idea what I'm getting because the seller does not know either. What should I be hoping to get? I think the variable speed controller will probably have a better range as it is more efficient. But how bad would it be if it were a resistor type cart? I guess I could replace the throttle/pedal mechanism and wire up a speed controller if it is that bad. Mostly this thing is going to be used for transportation of kids to and from school. Thanks to all who gave me some advice. |

Re: Am I paying too much?
Serial number will narrow your search for answers. Simple questions like lever or rocker switch for reverse and how many caps/holes on each battery will help a great deal more in determining the drive system rather than year of manufacture. All carts can be fixed or upgraded. Just depends on satisfying your specific need as to how complicated or costly that might be.

Re: Am I paying too much?
They were just problem childs and CC quickly got away from them with the Regen 2's. Then later came the IQ and so on..... There are no parts such as controller and some components so you have to upgrade to Regen 2 or better when you get to that point. You could have a resistor cart, a Regen 1, Regen 2, Series controller cart, etc. As previously stated, a quick visual inspection will tell you what it is and the serial # will tell you year and details.
