Default 1990 Cushman 36v Utility Cart

I've got a new to me 1990 Cushman 36v Utility Cart I'm trying to get going. It started off as a purple pile and now has a sweet new red paint job.

I've replaced the batteries. They are at 38.2v.

The solenoid tests good. I put + and - on the 2 small terminals, disconnected the big lugs and it ohms out to nothing. With the positive/right side connected I get full pack voltage on the left hand side.

The motor tests good. It ohms out fine according to this: https://plumquick.com/wp-content/upl...torTesting.pdf I also jumpered it and applied 12v to it and it ran fine.

I also tested the F&R switch. I have continuity between + and S1 as well as S2 and A2 when in forward. I also have continuity between + and S2 as well as S1 and A2 when in reverse.

The problem I'm having is when everything is hooked up and press the gas the voltage on the out side of the solenoid drops to around 4 volts.

Any ideas what the issue is? Any other tests you can think of?

Had a few hours to dig in to the issue this evening.

I bypassed the speed resistor by unhooking a1 from the motor and hooking the motor a1 straight to ground. The problem persisted.

I then bypassed the f&r switch. The problem persisted.

Now I'm back to the motor. I ran the continuity test again and found continuity from a1 to the case.

What's the prognosis? Bad motor? Bad brushes? The brushes look replaceable.

It is a prestolite mvh-4001.

You probably have a short in the motor windings. A lot of alternator shops can also service common motors which your cart will certainly have. Find a local shop, pop your motor off and take it to them for servicing.
