Oh, I'm "feeding" deer alright! Grow about 100 acres of "deer plots" every year give or take. I try to get enough leftovers to feed my cattle too. Nobody plants special deer plots here.

Good golly, at 250 to 400$ per bag, 100 acres would cost a fortune!

I tried a ground operated pull type seed spreader. Lasted about a half an acre. They may work fine for lawn seeding, but use in harrowed food plots they wont last.

We only broadcast seed in early spring, sometimes with snow on the ground, to repair fields hurt by winter, or to replace a legume that died out the previous year. It is called frost seeding and the freeze thaw cycles lift the top 1/4 inch of soil thus burying the seed. Works best with heavy seed like clover and alfalfas. New forage fields are seeded with a Great Plains drill. It puts the seed at the correct depth and rate and has packer wheels to firm the soil over it. No waste. Generally use a grass legume mix at 15 pounds to the acre.

Took the grab bar off the back and mounted it on the front bumper. Cut two pieces of conduit and braced. Spreader works great!!!
