2002 DS IQ Battery Question
I have a 2002 DS IQ 48 volt Club Car. I recently changed the batteries and happened to read the voltage from the battery ground terminal to the chassis and it read 34 Volts. I just took for granted that battery ground and the chassis should be the same point electrically. Does anyone know how the low terminal on the 1st battery is connected to the chassis. The battery pack floating at 34 volts seems wrong. The cart works OK. Thanks. Bill from The Villages FL

Re: 2002 DS IQ Battery Question
Bill, I am not 100% sure I understand your question, but I can assure you there is no (or should not be any) grounding/Electrical connections to your carts chassis or battery voltage. Now it is not uncommon to get stray voltage at the frame just from the inherent contact of the batteries, but it is generally very low and does not cause any safety concerns. If you are getting a true voltage reading, you need to check and see what is causing it.
Your carts grounding occurs within the electrical system itself. Between the batteries and the controller at B-. That is why any Negative or Grounding is tied back to this point. |

Re: 2002 DS IQ Battery Question
There should be NO voltage on the frame of an electric cart. You may be reading ghost voltage. When the batteries or cables get corrosion they will pass voltage to the frame. If you put a normal house light bulb with the end touching the frame and touch the meter wire to the threads the bulb may light then fad out. That will confirm its ghost voltage. Clean all your cable ends and batteries.
