Finally upgraded to 48v...wifes not gonna like it haha!
Made the last upgrade to the series motor drive train (for the time being) and finally upgraded to 48v and I think Im definitely going to need one of those personality switches for the wife. Over the last year to 18 months I have replaced everything with the last pieces being a 500amp alltrax and a high speed D&D motor with hopes of getting street legal over the next year. I had the motor installed running 36v for a couple weeks until I found someone to buy my 18 month old batteries and it ran pretty sweet even at 36v, bouncing between 20-21 mph with the family on board. Got the new pack in last night and let it get a good charge then took it out with my daughter this afternoon and holy smokes what a difference! The butt dyno approved of the torque and with a slight breeze at our back we topped out at 29mph! My 5 year old girl loved but I dont think her mama is!
This thing is now a beast and a lot of that comes from info on this forum and site sponsors (I bought a lot of components and advice from TahoeDawg and ScottyB) Also you guys that are running **** near 40mph are out of your minds! |

Re: Finally upgraded to 48v...wifes not gonna like it haha!
So for my next cart, dont tell my wife, I want to do one of these lowered air ride deals and that may be a fun one for more speed, thinking adult go cart, but we will cross that road when I get there. For now I will stick with grip it and grin!
On another cool note, at least I think it is, I took monitor files from the stock 36v motor, the upgraded motor running at 36v, and I will soon get a monitor file at 48v with the upgraded motor. It could provide some good data for people looking at upgrades. For instance running 4ga wires on that motor at 36v at cruising speed was basically at the upper end of the amperage rating for those cables and that was a big push for the 48v upgrade. Im very curious the difference myself as while there is more voltage to drop the amps the motor is obviously making more power now so I cant imagine its apples to apples for ohms law, but maybe im wrong. |
