Re: Noise in rear of 2007 club car
The only time I ever had the loud clunking when on/off the throttle, I found my shackles were loose between the axle and springs allowing it to rock. Centered it all back up and tightened it down and it has not been heard of since...

The "shackles" are the 1/4"x1-1/4" bars connecting the rear end of the leaf springs to the frame. First time I looked at the rear end on our cart I saw the single U-bolts on each side. Never seen a setup like that before, it just doesn't look right. |

ok 1/4" rod bent around the axel looks wrong. the shackles are tight on mine --upper and lower connecting point,The bottom shock ends. Were loose? " "Shackles" are connected to the frame...and the spring end. |

There's a tube inside the bushing that keeps the bushing from getting squished too tight. What condition are the leaf spring bushings? The stock 7/16" U-bolts do the job. I'm upgrading to a 3 leaf spring pack and since I had the springs out anyway replaced the single U-bolt setup with two 1/2" U-bolts, $20 in parts and a bit of grinding/drilling. I'm upgrading the motor/controller for more torque/speed and that will put higher forces on the rear axle. Any lift kit has two U-bolts per side. There is very little "slop" in my rear axle. I have the motor out and when turning the splined input shaft or rotating the wheels there is no slop or noise. I changed the gear oil to synthetic as it was probably 17 years old and it does seem to turn easier/smoother. Are there any worn spots on the shackle bars from rubbing? My stock aluminum shackle bars have worn spots on the edges from the frame rails. Not sure how that happens, unless they flex sideways a bit. I may be installing slightly longer shackles after adding a rear seat and I will definitely use steel. How are the shock absorber bushings? |
