Default How do you lower brake cables? Ezgo TXT

I just put a 4" block lift on my EZGO TXT and having issues with the brakes locking up. I have read that lowering the brake cables from the hold up brackets help with this issue. I looked at the brackets and one is on the drivers side of the battery tray and the other is at the rear of the tray. Do I have to disconnect the brake cables from the hub to lower this? If not how do you do it? It seems very tight. Any help would be appreciated!

Are the brake levers that the cables hook to on the bottom or the top of the backing plates?.. if on top you have to switch the backing plates from side to side so they are on the bottom. If they are on the bottom there is usually clips back further on the frame (than the battery tray) that the cables are hooked on, you have to unhook to free them up a little.

Thanks for the reply. Im not sure what you mean by backing plate. Here are some pictures that I took. It looks like the only thing holding them up are the brackets by the battery holder. If this is what I need to do I need to detach the brake cable?

You have to unhook the cable out of that clip and that bracket for the other side. You will have to disconnect the end of the cables from the levers on the backing plates to do it (pull the pins). Then tie the cables up with some plastic ties so it has some slack in the cables.

Hard to tell in the pictures but the passenger side might be ok, the drivers side is stretched out. That clip is open on top, you have to pry it open a little more to get the cable up and out (and disconnect cable to have enough slack to do it). Then hook the cable back up and like I said use a plastic tie holding the cable below the clip.

Backing plates are the round plates bolted to the end of the axles that the brake shoes are mounted to.

Another popular option is using a new, longer "passenger side" cable on the drivers side. Catching stuff on the brake cables is no fun (because they are stretched so tight they cant be secured).
