Default Battery Tray- Repair or replace?

I just picked up a 99 TXT, brand new batteries, needs some work. First thing I noticed is the tray. At what point should it be replaced?

I bought an inexpensive Harbor Freight welder just for that. You Can go to Lowe's and buy a 6' stick of angle iron for less than $20 and repair most TXT battery boxes.

Buy a wire brush for your drill and go to town. As long as you haven't lost too much good metal, you can recoat it. I know it's somewhat subjective, but they probably didn't have the thickness specially made. They likely used a standard thickness that had a good factor of safety.

Hard to tell from the photo, but mine looked similar, and after cleaning it up, I was comfortable that it was fine. I used truck bed liner to coat mine. Mine's been fine for 5 years.

Flap disk on an angle grinder works well too. You can use por 15 to coat any rust you can't get off.

You'll be fine. Clean & paint it (or other good quality coat).
